If you want to experience a place that has carrying epic the three Yugas (Sataya Yuga, Treta Yuga and Dwapara Yuga), then Triyuginarayan is a village you should visit. A peaceful spot that lies in between green and snowy Himalayan mountains is considered one the oldest pilgrimage in Hinduism that has observed important incidents in Hindu mythology. The major attraction here is a temple and various kunds that always flows with running water in all seasons.
This magnificient temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is located on the ancient bridle path that connects to Kedarnath. Temple lies in the village of Triyugi Narayaan that is 6.5 kms from Somprayag located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state of India.
According to a legend, Triyuginarayan was the capital of Kingdom of King Himvat and is the place where Shiva wedded Parvati in Satya Yuga. The fire for the divine wedding was lit in the huge four comered Havan Kund. All the sages attended the wedding and Lord Vishnu himself was the master of ceremonies. Remnants of the celestial fire are believed to be burning in the Havan Kund even today. Pilgrim offer wood to the fire that has seen three Yuga hence the temple is named Triyuginarayan. The ashes from this fire is supposed to promote conjugal bliss. As a prashad pilgrims receives these ashes of havan kund from temple. There are three kund in this village – Rudrakund, Vishnu kund and Brahmakund. These are the kunds where the Gods bathed at the same time of Shiva – Parvati wedding. The water in these kund flows from the Saraswati kund which is said to have sprang from Lord Vishnu’s Navel. Current infrastructure is said to be renovated and rebuild by Adi Sankracharya when he visited here in Dwapara yuga.
Today, Triyuginarayan village has become a wedding destination for many people who want to make their married life blissful with blessings of Lord Vishnu. People across India and other parts of the country visit here to get blessing of Lord Vishnu, his companion Mata Laxmi other Gods and Goddesses who attended the celestial marriage.
The best time to visit the temple is in Indian summer season but as village has good access of road, you can reach here any season. Make sure at the time of monsoon and winters you are well prepared with back pack and well serviced vehicle. As in monsoon there is continuous rain and a bit of land slides and in winters the region is covered with snow. However still you will make a great experience with your here at Triyuginarayan.
